Recently, Oppo has released a lot of interesting smartphones, including Oppo Find X with a retractable camera. The new phone Oppo F9 is not so interesting in the specifications, but it offers interesting color solutions and a unique cutout.
I got to know F9 and got to know all its sides. Read about this and more about something else in my review.
There is no denying that the Oppo F9 is a copy of the iPhone. However, despite the similar appearance and shape, the F9 was not made using the same high-quality materials. Its body looks like a combination of glass and metal, but it is completely made of plastic. This makes the smartphone significantly cheaper compared to competitors with glass or metal structures, but the case itself is quite durable and perfectly assembled.
What makes the Oppo design attractive is its gradient color scheme. I got a review of a red model that turns into purple at the bottom. The unique diamond pattern on the back panel is viewed from different angles. It looks awesome. If red or purple is not your color, there is also a blue model, which tilts to black.
Everything else in the design of the F9 is pretty standard. On the back there is a fingerprint scanner, the power button is located on the right, the volume control on the left, and the headphone jack on the bottom. Oddly, this gadget did not get a USB-Type-C port, Oppo installed an outdated Micro USB.
Another feature in the Oppo F9 that deserves attention is the neckline. Bangs is probably the most hated trend in 2018 smartphones, but Oppo has found a way to make it a good looking complement. The cutout in F9 is much smaller and more attractive than the typical one on other smartphones. It has only a front camera installed, unlike most competitors who have a speaker and various sensors installed there. The speaker here is integrated into the top of the phone.
The 6.3-inch screen has a very thin frame in a circle. With a resolution of 2340 × 1080 pixels, this is not the most impressive display that you find on a smartphone in this price category, but it is quite enough. It is large, easy to use and pleasant to watch. The colors are bright, the text is clear, and the maximum brightness is enough to see the contents under direct sunlight.
Oppo F9 is also the first smartphone that comes with Gorilla Glass 6 protection, the strongest glass from Corning, able to survive an average of 15 drops from a height of 1 meter.
Performance and Tests
Smartphone Oppo F9 works on the Mediatek Helio P60 processor in a pair with 6 GB of RAM. During use, most of the time the gadget I tested worked smoothly. Launching applications, navigating through the interface, browsing the web and other typical actions took place without delays and freezes.
The only problem I encountered is games. The phone has difficulty even running Clash Royale, which is a fairly easy game. Oppo software has a game mode for better performance, but I didn’t notice a difference when using it.
The least attractive part of the Oppo F9 is the software. The smartphone runs on Android 8.1 OS Oreo with the ColorOS user interface, which not only changes Android, but also tries to imitate iOS. The appearance of the icons, wallpaper and functions are very similar.
Some features are not intuitive compared to those offered in pure Android. Notifications also can not be deleted. Instead, you need to scroll through the notification from right to left and click the trash icon. This method seems awkward and makes it difficult to quickly remove unnecessary ones.
In terms of battery life, the F9 is excellent. A full charge of 3500 mAh battery allows the device to go without recharging all day. In the test of continuous viewing HD-video smartphone lasted 14 hours and 39 minutes, which is not bad. The phone also charges very fast with the fast charging VOOC Oppo. In 30 minutes, the battery is replenished by 30%, in 1 hour at 62%, and a full charge takes 2 hours and 20 minutes.
Oppo F9 cameras
On the back of the Oppo F9, there is a main 16-megapixel sensor with an f / 1.8 diaphragm and an additional 2-megapixel sensor for depth and portrait mode. The camera offers a variety of different functions, like slow-motion shooting, slow-motion video, stickers, AI beauty mode and Google Lens integration.
The main 16-megapixel sensor does not have enough stars from the sky, but it is more than enough. In daylight or good light, the camera works well. Images are quite detailed and have a good dynamic range, and color retains a natural appearance. In low light scenarios, the quality deteriorates dramatically. Photos retain quite a lot of color, but do not have sufficient clarity and lose a lot of detail. This is not surprising, given the lack of optical stabilization in the camera.
The front camera is equipped with a 25-megapixel lens, providing sufficient resolution for zooming and cropping photos. The pictures themselves are good, with nice details and natural skin tones. The intensity of the beauty mode here can be adjusted manually.
Oppo F9 has a lot of modern features at an affordable price. The screen here is almost frameless and with a small cut, there are two cameras, and the color solutions of the case are very unique. This is another smartphone that demonstrates Oppo’s constant efforts in design innovation, the phone no longer offers something special.
