Monobrow does not leave the minds of Chinese manufacturers of smartphones, if initially the imitation of Apple was the prerogative of small companies, then over time, almost everyone presented their own variation of a smartphone with a bang. Xiaomi stayed until the last and after the flagship Mi 8 and Mi 8 SE presented a budget Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro.

Based on the combination of facts and prices, the phone can become one of the most successfully sold. So, meet the new Redmi 6 Pro.

Smartphone design

Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro looks like most others from the Redmi line. Honestly, I am not in favor of such a decision. Nevertheless, the compact metal case with rounded edges, small frames around the display, with a reasonable height and thickness – all this gives the smartphone an excellent appearance. The device feels durable and conveniently located in the hand.

In general, Redmi 6 Pro is a great phone with comfortable ergonomics and functional design – even if there is nothing new in it.

Good bang display

The new Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro is not the first Xiaomi smartphone with a “eyebrow” that can be hidden if necessary. It has a 5.84-inch full HD + display with a resolution of 2280 × 1080, an aspect ratio of 19: 9 and a pixel density of 432 PPI. The screen can hardly be called frameless, since the side and bottom frames are significant here, but for a smartphone at this price this is true, given that the ergonomics here are just perfect.

Nevertheless, the colors of the Redmi 6 Pro display are rich, the text and images look crisp. Viewing angles are also good here, maximum brightness is enough to comfortably read the contents even in bright sunlight. You can adjust the saturation and color level to suit your preferences.

Smartphone performance

Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro is equipped with an 8-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, which provides a good balance of power and efficiency. The phone comes in two memory options: 3/32 GB and 4/64 GB. Internal memory can be increased up to 128 GB using microSD cards.

In everyday use, I did not notice lags or delays. However, to run heavy applications you have to wait a few seconds, especially if they run too much in the background.

It is obvious that Redmi 6 Pro is not a gaming phone. At the minimum settings, some games are played normally, and some with a delay. PUBG Mobile even at the lowest settings has a noticeable loss of frames. However, with the largest loads, the gadget does not get hot.

In general, the internal components here offer excellent performance, which will be enough for most users.

Cameras in Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro

On the back of the Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro is a module with a main 12-megapixel sensor with an aperture of f / 1.9 and an additional 5-megapixel also with an aperture of f / 2.0 for depth effects. There are LED flash, PDAF and electronic image stabilizator (EIS).

Photographs taken during the daytime are good, with lots of detail and excellent sharpness. However, the dynamic range might be slightly better. The quality of the pictures in low light is the Achilles heel of most budget smartphones, and the Redmi 6 Pro is no different in this part. Considerable shutter lag and the lack of optical image stabilization mean that you need to keep the phone stationary in order to achieve stable photos. The photos taken indoors and in low light conditions, there is considerable noise.

Portrait mode on the Redmi 6 Pro works well. It does an excellent job with detecting the edges of an object. The front 5-megapixel camera with f / 2.0 aperture in good light creates a fairly rich and vivid self. There is support for artificial intelligence (AI) and beauty mode.

Of course, the camera of Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro is not the flagship, but it is much better than most competitors in this price range.

The operating system of Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro is Android 8.1 Oreo with proprietary shell MIUI 9. In the near future, the company promised to upgrade to MIUI 10, but did not say a word about updating Android 9 Pie.

MIUI is one of the best and most thoughtful interfaces for Android, which has many fans. Several excellent features and useful utilities improve the overall impression of the smartphone. The gesture-based navigation system has received a significant change and is obviously the best way to interact with the interface and applications.

Of course, there are some drawbacks. The annoying ads that Xiaomi has implemented in MIUI, as well as several third-party pre-installed applications that will obviously annoy many users.

Battery and hardware

Budget Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro boasts a large battery with a capacity of 4000 mAh, a charge which lasts for a whole day with active use. In the HD Video playback test, the battery lasted about 20 hours. Fast charging technology is missing here.

The phone is equipped with separate trays for two Nano-SIM-cards and a memory card, and also has a microUSB port instead of a faster USB Type-C.

The cost of Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro

The cost of Redmi 6 Pro for version 3 / 32GB is $ 153 (Rs 10,999) and $ 180 (Rs 12,999) for 4 / 64GB.

Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro is a good smartphone, equipped with modern components, as well as a great attempt to introduce the average performance in the budget segment to keep up with the times. I recommend it for anyone looking for an inexpensive or average smartphone.

In general, Redmi 6 Pro is a robust and functional gadget in a compact, well-designed case, even if its design is a bit boring.
